Obituary of McHALE – Beverley

June 15, 1945 – July 29, 2011 Bev passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at the Agapé Hospice on Friday, July 29, 2011 at the age of 66. Bev was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and was able to beat it. She was later diagnosed with lung cancer and fought a hard four year battle against it that inspired all of us around her with her courage and conviction. Bev is survived by her loving husband of thirty-three years, Mick Ward; her children, Wendy, Eileen, Traci (Sam) and Scott; her grandchildren, Alicia, Colin, Samantha, Brandon, and Ashley; and her great-grandson Jordan. She is also survived by numerous cousins, extended family and friends. She was particularly grateful for her lifelong friendships with Dian, Glenna, and her best friend Judy, who were there for her always, through good times and bad. She was predeceased by her parents Earle and Pearle MacNeill; her very special aunt Phyllis Cosgrove; and her cousins, Donna and Gary. Bev was born in Montreal but spent her early childhood in PEI before returning to Montreal and then moved to Calgary in 1980. Bev spent many years operating a day home and was affectionately known as “Nanny” or “Bevy”. Although she had to give up her day home when she was diagnosed with cancer, she had formed friendships that continued on with both parents and the children she loved and took care of as if they were her own. At Bev’s request, there will be no funeral. Instead, there will be a Celebration of her Life at a later date. We would like to thank everyone for their caring and kind thoughts during this difficult time. We would also like to thank all the wonderful people at the Agapé Hospice for keeping Bev dignified and in comfort during her final days and for the care and compassion extended to her friends and family. We would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Bebb and his wonderful nurse Cathy, Dr. Lim, as well as all the homecare nurses, especially Kathleen and Rhonda who took such wonderful care of Bev. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd.
