Obituary of MacLEAN – Claire Adrienne

September 24, 1917 – July 23, 2011 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Claire MacLean on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the age of 93 years. Mother, the fourth of seven children was born on a farm southwest of Stettler, Alberta. Like many growing up on the prairies Mom left school early and went to work cooking and cleaning at ranches in the district. This is where she met and married our father, John MacLean. In order to raise their growing family of four children, they moved into the town of Stettler where Mom started a career in hairdressing. She operated “Claire’s Beauty Salon” until 1960 when the family relocated to Calgary. Mom and Dad retired to Parksville, BC in 1988 and then returned to their roots in Alberta in 2004, where they resided at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane. Mother was predeceased by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, John on May 7, 2011 and grandson, Bob MacLean on January 13, 2011. She is survived by her sister Mary (Lorne) Smith of Nanaimo, BC; her children, John (Jenny) MacLean of Parksville, BC, Joan (Dick) Broatch of Cochrane, Carol (Lou) Laczkovics of Sicamous, BC and Ron (Betty) MacLean of Calgary. Mother was blessed with eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren who were a particular focus in her life and each one of them recognize her as an integral part of their growth. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ-King Catholic Church (4916 – 54th Street Stettler, AB), on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow with Mom being laid to rest beside our father at Lake View Cemetery, Stettler, AB.
