Obituary of RIDER – Sandy Paul

October 15, 1947 – July 18, 2011 With family at his bedside supporting and comforting him, Sandy Wagiya Ska-de has taken his peaceful journey. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and the lives he touched. He loved life and lived to the fullest, especially for his grandchildren. Sandy was a hard worker all his life. He attended Morley Residential School, Bible School, Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College. He lived his traditional culture and spoke the Stoney language fluently. He was one of the few people who took part in translating and developing of the true Stoney written language. He was a translator in the Stoney Cultural Education Program. He was a wilderness guide for the Wilderness Centre. He worked as a special Constable with the Stoney Tribal Police. He was a counsellor for the AADAC program in Morley. He was also a Bus Driver for Nakoda Bus Lines. Sandy will be dearly missed by his family, daughter Lynel; grandchildren Shenelle, Dalason, River, Shay; brother Desi (Coreen); sisters Mary Jane, Cecelia, Phyllis, Lycrecia; companion Marie; adopted children Eliott (Gwen), Shelly, Vina, Neva, and Greg Jr. along with their children; special aunties Nora, Mabel and Reba; as well as many other relatives and friends. We apologize if we have missed anyone. He was predeceased by his Mother Dorothy Rider (2006), Father Eddie Lefthand,; brothers Clarence (2011) and Quentin (2011), Auntie Flora Ear (1995); and brother-in-law Hanson Tym (2002). Wake Services will be held at the residence of Desi Rider (Morley, AB) on Saturday July 23, 2011 and Sunday July 24, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at Morley United Church (Morley, AB) on Monday July 25, 2011 at 12:00 noon. Graveside Service to follow at Bearspaw Cemetery (Morley, AB).
