Obituary of SMITH – Kenneth MacLeod

1925 – 2011 It is with great sadness that the family of Ken Smith age 86, announce his passing at the Bethany Care Centre, Airdrie on Friday, July 15, 2011. Dad was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. and served in the Canadian Air Force during World War II. After the war he became a travelling salesman in the Okanogan Valley and it was on one of his trips that he met the love of his life Patricia. They were married in Penticton, B.C. on May 15, 1954 and resided there until his transfer to Calgary in January, 1964. Their love of B.C. continued over their many years in Alberta and when it became time to retire in 1989, Radium Hot Springs became their home. In 2005 they made the very hard decision to move back to Alberta to be closer to their family. Sadly, their journey together ended with Mom’s passing in August, 2006 and Dad became a resident of the Airdrie Bethany. His big smile, friendliness and sense of humour quickly made him a favourite. Father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Dad leaves behind his daughters; Sue (Dan) Herbert and Wendy Smith and brother Ron Smith; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Sara (Ryan) Dyck, great-grandson Marcus; Michelle (Matt) McGill; Kate Boudignon, great-granddaughter Jasmine; Matthew Boudignon and Taylor (Cindy) Haskell. He was predeceased by his son Doug in 1981, granddaughter Brett Haskell in April 2010 and brother Eric Smith in September 2010. The family would like to give a huge thank you to the staff of the Airdrie Bethany for their love, devotion and support during the time Dad lived with them and at his passing. Friends and relatives are invited to a celebration of his life to be held at Bethany Care Centre, Airdrie (1736 – 1 Avenue) on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Bethany Care Society (Airdrie), 1001 – 17 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 2E5.
