Obituary of PINEAU – Eric Joseph
January 24, 1926 – July 4, 2011
Eric Joseph Pineau, affectionately known as “Papa” by all his family, passed away quietly on Monday, July 4, 2011 with his family by his side, at the age of 85 years.
Eric was born in S. Rustico, PEI. He retired from CPR after thirty-seven years of service in 1986 and was a long time member of the Pensioners Club. He went to the CPR Pensioners Club weekly and played pool with his fellow pensioners. Eric took up golfing in his 70’s and played frequently during the summer months on Vancouver Island, where his family has a home. His passion in later years was playing at various Canadian Legions in crib tournaments on Sundays, and he was extremely proud once winning the tournament with his son.
Until his health deteriorated, Eric went for daily walks and “his daily soup and observation of the card tables” at the casino. He and his wife thoroughly enjoyed playing cards with their close friends in the evenings.
Papa was a quiet man who always gave a helping hand to his children and will be sorely missed by everyone.
Eric is survived by his children, Sonja (Sam) Doyle, Mervin Krull, Marlene (Bob) Fredriksen; grandchildren, Marlene (Don) Boykiw, Kim (James) Doyle, Shantelle (Geoff) Fredriksen, Sean (Denise) Fredriksen, Jason (Michelle) Krull; great-grandchildren, Christine, Colleen, Carolyn Boykiw, Riley, Mia, Colton Wilkinson; and great-great-grandchild Tenzyn Krull. He is also survived by sisters and brothers in PEI, Rita, Alice, Gerard, Alyre, John and Bernadette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Alberta, Ontario and PEI. He was predeceased by his wife Rose in July 1990, by his parents Julianne and Felix Pineau; and brothers and sisters, George, Simone, Adrian and Alphonse.
