Obituary of BROWN – Brent

December 9, 1954 – June 30, 2011 The family of Brent Brown is saddened to report his sudden death on Thursday, June 30, 2011 in the peaceful setting of their mountain home. Right now, Brent would say: “The shame is not how short life is but how long it takes some people to start living”. And live it well he did! Brent has left behind his wife and best friend Tricia (O’Byrne) and his four children, Ryan, Caron, Christopher and Remee and his first wife and long time friend, Sandy Last. Brent is also succeeded by a “bunch of Browns”, including his parents Jack and Georgia and his brother John (Brenda). He was predeceased by his brother Kelly on January 22, 2009. Tricia and children are supported by her parents Jim and Leone O’Byrne and their family who held Brent as their cherished friend. Brent was well along in his ever evolving “bucket list”, which included exploring the world with friends and family and his joy for big boat sailing off of Canada’s west coast and throughout the Caribbean. “You can’t control the direction of the wind but you can adjust your sails” Brent was born in Calgary and developed his negotiating skills from his first words. He started his career as an orange squeezer at the age of 12 and then at 17 spent 6 months in the Arctic islands which showed him the benefits of higher education (U of Calgary). The oil industry treated him well, particularly as an “oil trader extraordinaire”. Recently, he served as President of SemCanada Crude Company and a VP at Petrogas Marketing. A celebration of Brent’s energetic and vibrant life will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 1:30 p.m., Archdeacon Ansley Tucker officiating. Memorial tributes may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 200 119 14th Street NW Calgary, T2N 1Z6 (403 264-5549).
