Obituary of KIRBY – Douglas Arthur

November 19, 1951 – June 25, 2011 Douglas Arthur Kirby of Airdrie passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the age of 59 years, after a valiant battle with ALS. He was the son of Harry and Margaret Kirby. Although Doug traveled to and from his various jobs throughout Western Canada, Balzac and Airdrie were his home for his entire life. Doug worked primarily as a highly skilled heavy equipment operator and welder. All who knew Doug will remember him as a friendly, generous and outgoing character who always had an opinion and a few words of wisdom to share. Doug was also a strong union representative, who spoke very effectively on behalf of his fellow employees. Doug will also be remembered as a brother and uncle who took an interest in the lives of his numerous nieces and nephews. Doug is survived by his siblings, Barbara Kennedy (Brian), David (Elsie), Janet Wheeler, Lois Harnack (Don), Brian (Debbie), and their families.
