Obituary of MacLACHLAN – Kathleen Anna

March 6, 1921– June 23, 2011 Kay MacLachlan of Calgary, passed away in the presence of family on June 23, 2011 at the age of 90 years. Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Letha MacLachlan and John Ridge; her son and daughter-in-law Doug and Sharon MacLachlan; and four granddaughters who were the love of her life: Stephanie, Lauren, Janelle and Kendra. She is also survived by the Mummery family, who became her family through her second marriage and warmly embraced her as a mother and grandmother. Kay was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Dugald (Doug) in 1993; and by her second husband, Alvin (Al) Ehnis, in 2004. Kay was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was affectionately known as Nana. She won the hearts of all who knew her. Raised on the homestead started by her parents in 1912 near Leslieville, Alberta, Nana rode horse back to her weekly piano lessons. Her nervousness and anxiety over the annual music examinations and arrival of results from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto finally paid off when she achieved her Grade 10 Certificate. For years to come she shared her love of classical music with her children and grandchildren who, in 2005, established a scholarship in her name for young musicians with the Calgary Youth Orchestra. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Calgary Youth Orchestra – the Kathleen MacLachlan Scholarship – through George Fenwick, CYO Manager: 4825 Mount Royal Gate, SW, Calgary AB, T3E 6K6; (403) 440-5978; or cyo@mtroyal.ca. The family extends their appreciation for the outstanding care and compassion of Dr. Paddy Quail and the excellent staff at Chinook Care Centre. A private family celebration to remember Kay will be held this fall when all grandchildren can be present. Condolences can be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Kay MacLachlan, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200
