Obituary of HASSLER – Vincent Joseph

September 10, 1921 – June 22, 2011 Vincent Joseph Hassler beloved husband of Bernice of Calgary, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the age of 89 years, doing what he enjoyed most, tending to his garden. Vincent was born on September 10, 1921 in Bancroft, Nebraska and farmed there until 1974 when he relocated to Calgary. Vincent was proud to be an Albertan and a Canadian. His lifelong love of learning translated into many hours exploring Southern Alberta through historical readings and back-road excursions. He was a private man, devoted to his faith and family. Besides his loving wife Bernice (nee Stalp) of sixty-one years, Vincent is survived by his ten children and their spouses, Mary (Larry) Hoops, Janell (Martin) Collins, Peggy (Wayne) Cassidy, Barbara (Glenn) Smyth, Marla (Rick) Van Gelder, Laura (Todd) Massie, all of Calgary, George (Heather) Hassler of Okotoks, Bob (Janet) Hassler of Houston, TX, Jim (Violet) Hassler of Statesville, NC and Bonnie (Al) Franzluebbers of West Point, NE. He is also survived by thirty grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; his sisters Lois Baumert of Omaha, NE and Rose Ann (Tom) Jones of Ventura, CA and the extended Hassler and Stalp families. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Gertrude Hassler; his brother Paul Hassler; his brother-in-law Ed Baumert; and his grandson Justin Van Gelder. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90 Avenue S.E.) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with graveside service to follow at “Holy Family Cemetery” Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
