Obituary of ROBERTSON – E. Josephine Jo

February 18, 1917 – June 22, 2011 Josephine Robertson, beloved wife of the late Jack Robertson, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the age of 94 years. Jo was born in Winnipeg, and was the eldest daughter of Dr. Arthur O. Rose and Edith Rose (nee Woodsworth). Jo spent her early years growing up on the Canadian prairies. She attended the Canadian Academy at Kobe for a year in her late teens. After she returned from Japan, the family moved to Vernon B.C. and then to Langley B.C. where her father practiced medicine and eventually founded the Langley Hospital. Jo graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Royal Columbian Hospital at New Westminster in 1943. She later joined the Canadian Army as a Nursing Sister with the rank of Lieutenant and in January 1944 she was sent to the U.K. En route, she met her future husband, Jack Robertson, an officer in the Intelligence Corp of the Canadian Forces. While overseas, Jo was stationed at both Basingstoke and Turnhout, Belgium. The happy couple were united in marriage on April 4, 1945, by Jack’s stepfather, the Reverend R.H. Robinson, former Anglican Dean of Calgary, in St. James Church, Northampton, England. In June 1946, they returned to Canada and settled in Calgary, where Jack became a successful lawyer and Jo became a busy mother to their two children, Jean and Jamie. Jo was an avid golfer who once won the Empress Golf Tournament at Victoria. She was still golfing into her 90’s. She enjoyed membership at the Earl Grey Golf Club, the Glencoe Club, the Calgary Golf and Country Club, and the Desert Island Country Club in Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs, CA. Jo also loved to travel. Their many trips to Britain enabled them to play on several of the famous courses in England and Scotland. They had a wonderful trip around the world to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Jo will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jean Robertson, granddaughter Heather Koe, grandson Dylan Koe, great-grandchildren Kylie, James, Natalie and Nicholas and her two great-great-grandchildren Caden and Lillith. She is survived by her two sisters Evelyn Slaney (Pat) and Kathleen Sinclair (Don) and by numerous nieces and nephews. Jo is predeceased by her husband Jack, son Jamie and her brother Bobby. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Garden.
