Obituary of McINTYRE – Oriel Lorraine

April 16, 1926 – June 16, 2011 Oriel Lorraine McIntyre passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the age of 85 years, surrounded by her family. Oriel was born in Edmonton where she met and married the love of her life in 1947. Oriel and Don lived in Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary before buying an acreage in Springbank where they lived for almost 20 years and raised their sons. Oriel loved the many cruises that she and Don took together, the activities sponsored by the Associated Canadian Travelers (ACT), and especially summers in Sundre which she continued to enjoy through last summer. As a girl, Oriel had a dream she could knit, woke up, and did! She was a veritable knitting machine, seldom using a pattern, creating new stitches, designs and patterns on the fly. Her creations have been worn and adored by generations of family members, friends and friends of friends. In the last couple of years she made literally hundreds of lap blankets, baby blankets, scarves, mittens, toques and afghans for several Calgary charitable organizations. She continued to be an active member of ACT, played bridge and cards, swam several times a week, completed crossword and Sudoku puzzles and loved watching old movies. Oriel was loved and will be missed by her sons and daughters-in-law Boyd and Brenda McIntyre and Monte and Shirley McIntyre; her grandchildren Stephanie (Ryan), Diane (Miguel), Kevin (Susie), Kate and Beth; her great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Aiden, Brody and Emily; her sister Nola (Lou) Rivet of Edmonton and her nieces and nephew. Oriel was predeceased by her husband Don in 2006 and her brothers Graydon and Rodney. An informal celebration of Oriel’s life will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Dana Village, 1818 Simcoe Boulevard S.W. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. We thank the staff of Unit 74, Rockyview General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
