Obituary of ERICKSON – Ruth Meredith
September 19, 1927 – June 6, 2011
Ruth Erickson, our dear wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the age of 83 years.
Ruth was born in Mansfield, Ohio and lived there through high school. She then attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, graduating with an honours degree in Mathematics. While at Denison, she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Erickson. They were married in the Swasey Chapel at Denison in 1948. They began their married life in Evanston, Illinois while Bob completed his Masters Degree, moving on to Calgary, AB in 1950 where they settled and started their family. In 1963, Ruth packed up her family and household and ventured off to Sydney, Australia where Bob had been assigned. She enjoyed her time in Sydney and made life-long friends. They returned to Calgary in 1966. Ruth made one more international move with Bob to Swindon, England in 1974, returning to Calgary permanently in 1975. After the children had all left home, she joined her husband in the oil business. Ruth was actively involved with Girl Guides and Sea Rangers. She enjoyed knitting, playing bridge, hiking in the mountains with friends, curling, tennis, badminton and synchronized swimming. Together, Bob and Ruth adventured around the world, and sailed in the Caribbean, Adriatic and Aegean seas.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband of sixty three years, Bob; her children Nancy Read (Mike) of Calgary, Mardy Martin (Jim) of Spokane, and John Erickson (Karen) of East Corinth, Vermont; grandchildren, Jocelyn (Uwe), Katy, Colin, Joel, Jeff (Brianne), Courtney (Brian), Kevin, Sarah (Mark), Carly (Jeff), and Eric; seven great-grandchildren; as well as her brother Dr. John Damron (Kay) of San Francisco and numerous nieces and nephews.
