Obituary of THORNE – Leonard John Lennie

August 19, 1956 – June 2, 2011 We are sad to announce Lennie Thorne, of Calgary, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the age of 54 years. He was born in Calgary and lived with his large family for over fifteen years. He spent eleven years in Michener Centre in Red Deer. He returned to Calgary in 1983 and resided at Riverview until the Scenic Bow facility was opened in 1988. His condition influenced his family to be very close and to choose work in careers dedicated to helping others. He was loved and gave great love to all. Lennie is survived by his father Len Thorne and his siblings, Dr. Lorraine Thorne (Dr. Lee Stilling and children, Carlyn, Erik and Joan); Maureen Thorne; Dr. Jim Thorne (Kari Gundersen and daughter Stine); Sheila Swindells (Gordon and children, Jacqueline, Gordy and Michael); Susan McEachern (children, Heather, Ross and Donny); Joan McGowan (Dr. Dan McGowan and son Sean) and numerous other extended family. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret Thorne in 2006. Lennie’s family would like to thank Dr. Carpenter, Dr. Hudy, Dr. Ford, the medical staff at Foothills Hospital and especially all the staff at the Scenic Bow facility who compassionately provided exceptional care for Lennie for the past twenty eight years.
