Obituary of EDWARDS – William Lorne
August 18, 1922 – May 30, 2011
W. Lorne Edwards, beloved husband of Audrey of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the age of 88 years.
Besides his loving wife of sixty-four years, Lorne is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lyle and Patti Edwards and Glen Edwards; five grandchildren, Jeff Edwards and his wife Kelly, Kyle Edwards, Leanne and her husband Joe Benekritis, Michael Edwards and Colin Edwards; four great-grandchildren, Noley, Deegan and Bode Edwards and Matthew Benekritis. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Morley and Shirley Edwards and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Bertha Edwards; a brother Les Edwards; and a sister Dorothy Green.
Lorne will be remembered as a loving husband, supportive father, devoted grandfather and an enthusiastic great-grandfather. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished bowler. He bowled until very recently and took great pride in his ability to score better than many who were much younger than he. As a golfer, he cherished every moment he spent with family and friends at Cottonwood. Lorne loved following the activities of his grandchildren. Whether it was having him in the stands for their many sporting activities, their important milestones, playing golf or just spending time and hearing stories of his time in the Navy, the grandkids were the luckiest kids to have such a great “Poppa”.
