Obituary of LOMBARDO – Maria Fusco
August 6, 1930 – May 19, 2011
Maria Fusco Lombardo, beloved wife of the late Francesco Lombardo of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the age of 80 years.
Maria was born on August 6, 1930 in Monteforte Irpino, Avellino, Italy into a family of seven siblings. In 1961, she immigrated with her beloved husband Francesco to Canada to begin a new life and family together. In 1965, they welcomed to the family, son Antonio followed in 1968 by their daughter Emilia. Maria battled various illnesses throughout her life but always with great and neverending courage and fortitude. Maria was admired for her compassion and great love of family and friends.
She is survived by her son Antonio (Jacqueline) Lombardo and daughter Emilia Lombardo (Mark Nakajima); her brother Angelo Fusco; and grandchildren, Nicola and Aidan Lombardo. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Giuseppe (Anna Maria) Lombardo, Maria Mafalda Lombardo, Giuseppina Lombardo, Yolanda Lombardo, Emilia (Alfonso) Vona, Carlo Romano, Filomena Valentino Fusco, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband Francesco Lombardo; parents Giovanni Fusco and Silvestra Barone; sisters, Carmela Fusco De Sapio, Emilia Fusco De Somma, and Luisa Fusco; and brothers, Giuseppe Fusco and Carmine Fusco.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in St. Joseph’s Section at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
