Obituary of BAUER – Hermine
July 20, 1917 – May 16, 2011
Hermine (Hermaine) Bauer passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2011 at the age of 93 years.
Hermine was born in Hatton, Saskatchewan on July 20, 1917 to parents Alexander and Johanna Rueb. During her early years the family lived at Schuler, Saskatchewan, in the Sundre and Mayton areas and finally settled in Torrington in 1929. She married Bill (William) Bauer on November 10, 1938 and they farmed near Torrington until 1972 when they moved to Torrington. There they were busy playing cards, camping and visiting friends and relatives, until 1982 when Bill passed away. Hermine continued to live in Torrington until 1989, when she moved to Calgary to be near her sons and their families; and then she also moved to Red Deer for a year to be near her sister. While in Calgary, she and her sister-in-law Ethel Rueb were dancing at Greater Forest Lawn, Kerby Centre, Holy Trinity and Forest Lawn Legion. After Ethel passed away, she continued dancing and going to Senior’s outings. In 2006 Hermaine moved out of her apartment to the Aspen Lodge and, after being diagnosed with dementia, in 2009 she moved to the George Boyack Care Facility where she resided till her passing. There are a lot of special things that we like to remember about Hermine (Mom). She was very strong in her faith and enjoyed going to church and was involved with Ladies Aid. Mom loved music – clapping her hands, tapping her feet, and dancing around the room. She also loved to cook, and made the best fried chicken with sour cream gravy, strudel and kuchen; Mom was happiest when the house was full of friends and family and she could feed you all the cooking and sweets that she always made. She was generous and would give anything she could to help anyone. She will be missed by all of us.
Hermine is survived by her sons Cameron (Adena), Ron (Bonnie), Lyle, Dale (Cathie), Tim and sister Ernestina Oster. She is also survived by grandchildren Elizabeth (Eric) Anhorn, Patricia (Vitto) Basile, Jerry Bauer, Lori Bergen, Cherie (Terry) Parker, Jasmine Freed, Bobbi Jo Anderson, Rosemarie Tirk; and great-grandchildren Rebecca and Stephanie Anhorn, Victoria and Daniel Basile, Cody Bauer, Darnell, David and Brendan Parker, and friend Gordon Armstrong. She is also survived by numerous other relatives; including one sister-in-law Emma Bauer, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her parents, son Ken, daughter-in-law Shirley, brothers and their wives Carl (Ethel), Bill (Tillie), Sam (Elsie), and nephew Norman Oster. The family would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the George Boyack Centre for the love and care they gave Mom.
