Obituary of LOCKRIDGE – James Jim Francis
September 4, 1938 – May 13, 2011
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James “Jim” Francis Lockridge beloved husband of Marilyn of Calgary, on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the age of 72 years.
Jim was a proud military man and served thirty-five years in the Canadian Air Force, retiring in 1990 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer at the Canadian Forces Headquarters in Ottawa. Travelling the country and the world with his job he and Marilyn created a wealth of great friendships. Later in life, when those friends lived miles away, their friendships were easily rekindled with a quick “drop in” visit to catch up on old times.
Jim was an avid athlete, excelling as both a hockey and softball player throughout his youth and adult life. As his hockey legs wore out he begrudgingly gave up the game he loved and picked up his newest athletic passion cycling, and could be found daily riding his bike along the bike paths of Calgary. His passion for sports was handed down to his children and grandchildren as he was an avid coach and organizer of youth sports and an enthusiastic supporter of his children and grandchildren’s sporting pursuits. He so wanted to see his beloved Leafs win just one more Cup.
Go Leafs Go!
Jim and Marilyn enjoyed many happy years of retirement together. They filled their time with travelling the world, visiting friends and family, playing golf and checking items off their bucket list. Just recently Jim and Marilyn enjoyed a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon on what would be there last trip home together from their retirement property in Arizona.
Besides his loving wife and companion of fifty-four years, Marilyn, Jim is survived by his four children, Tim (Michelle), Leslie (Scott), Mark (Bernadette) and Brent (Karen); six grandchildren, Katelyn, Marc, Clayton, Darcy, Palmer and Claire; as well as sisters, Helen (Roger), Lois (Garth) and Shirley (Hugh).
