Obituary of GAGLIARDI – Barry Ivor

April 28, 1950 – May 8, 2011 Barry passed away peacefully with his partner by his side after a brave battle with brain cancer. His partner Ron Scheetz; his father Rosino Gagliardi; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Ontario and the Jones family in Youngstown, Ohio along with the Grandoni family and step sisters (Virginia and Martha), survive him. His mother Jessie-Doreen Gagliardi, of Cefn-Hengoed, Wales, predeceased Barry in 2002, whom he chose to be with this Mother’s Day on May 8, 2011. Barry was born on April 28, 1950 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He devoted his life to his family, friends and his love of teaching. His journey as an educator took him from Ontario to Rae-Edzo, Yellow Knife, NWT, Cold Lake, AB and then to Calgary. As an educator, he gave his time, energy and love to his students and faculty colleagues. He was a proud member of Calgary’s gay business community as a co-owner of the Calgary Eagle, a dream he realized with his partner and friends. Barry loved his garden, which was an oasis of calm for his family and friends. Barry had a great passion and love for all of his dogs. We will miss his laughter, smile and humour, as well as his dedication to those he affected. He touched many on his journey and for that his memory will be cherished and celebrated. His father thanks Barry for being an incredible son who gave his special love and attention to his parents. His father will miss his son’s cooking and their time together. Special thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the Rosedale Hospice for their extreme dedication and care to him.
