July 7, 1922 – May 1, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Army at the Carewest Colonel Belcher surrounded by his loving family. Army was born in 1922 in Williamstown, Ontario where he spent his childhood. After finishing high school, Army enlisted in the Armed Forces where he proudly served with the 2nd Canadian Survey Regiment RCA. He saw duty in France, Belgium and Holland. In 1995 he attended the fifty year celebrations for the liberation of Holland. After the war, Army moved west to Calgary in 1950 where he began his surveying career under Bob McCutcheon. It was at this time he met the love of his life, Connie Bell. They married in Winnipeg on May 10, 1952 then settled in Calgary and in the next seven years, had three children. During this time, Army studied then wrote his final exams to become an Alberta Land Surveyor in 1961. Together with partners, in 1965, Wolley-Dod and MacCrimmon Surveys was formed. Army served as President of the Alberta Land Surveyors in 1970. Army enjoyed a long and successful career with his company and was always held in the highest regard by his colleagues as a hard-working, honest and fair man. His quick wit and great sense of humor brought joy to everyone he knew. In his retirement years, Army enjoyed bird-watching, photography, fishing, family geneology, listening to the CBC radio, as well as leisurely road trips on secondary highways exploring places he hadn’t seen. Army had also kept a daily journal since 1955, chronicling his life and family experiences. We will cherish these forever. Thanks for the memories Dad – c’est bon!
