Dear Brenda and Per,
We are so deeply saddened for the loss of your son. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now.
There are never adequate words to address the reversal of the natural order of things. Our daughter Rachel, a commerce colleague of Cary’s at Dalhousie was shaken to the core and True had to take the oppurtunity to consider the loss of his own brother. All of us reflected about the importance of each other. It is so maddening it takes such a tragedy to bring it home. Our prayers are with you.
Per and Brenda,
I just learned of your tragic loss from a mutual friend. I am so so sorry and my heart goes out to you both. My most sincere prayers and condolences go out to you at this difficult time.
Nancy Marano
Dear Brenda, my mom just called me tonite at work. I hadn’t heard anything. I have been crying all nite for you, your family and your precious Cary. We are heartsick for you and can’t imagine your pain. I don’t even know why, but I thought of you and your two boys just about 3 days ago, for some reason I knew may 2nd was his birthday. Please know we are praying for you and thinking of you. Love Suzanne and Bruce.
Kära Aspo,
så djupt tragiskt och svårt.
Jag känner med dig.

Per, Brenda and Family,
It was with the greatest of sadness that I learned of the loss of your son, Cary. Judy and I also have a nineteen year old boy, so the tragic loss of Cary made us all pause in a moment of reflection and appreciation. Although we are far away in body, know that we are right beside you in spirit. Please accept our deepest condolences during this time of great sadness. Our hearts extend to you and your entire family.
Sincerely yours,
James Porteous
Brenda –
Sending you warm thoughts and sympathy for your loss. Words cannot express feelings, other than to say I am thinking of you at this time.
I saw the obit in the paper – strange as I never read them – and thought it was so sad that one so young has passed so soon. It was only when Josef also sent me the info did I connect that this was your Cary. He sounds like he was a wonderful person, and as he is your son, there is no other way he could be.
May you receive comfort from the love and support of your family and friends.
Susan

Fina minnen. MInnen att vårda ömt.
Per,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Debbie Vandelaar

When I think about Cary, a smile comes to my face – always laughter and smiles and carefree. Cary and I were in playschool together at Sunalta with Mrs. Ginnie O’Brien-Kelly – always learning and singing and climbing. When we reconnected at Western he had not changed – always alive and social and caring. We were drawn to him and we will miss him.
Dakota

My deepest sympathy on your family’s sudden tragedy regarding Cary. Mike Markiw phoned to let us know. I don’t think I ever met Cary but I remember fondly our talks going to Churchill, Manitoba. Brenda was pregnant with Beau and Lorraine was pregnant with Dominic (and to think, we both at that time predicted we would have girls!) I do remember your telling me about and showing me pictures of a young Cary and how proud a father you are.
There are no solutions to this tragedy; time and each one must make his own peace. Our whole family sends our condolences to you, Beau and Brenda.
Sincerely,
Gabriel and family

Dear Per, Brenda and Beau
I had the opportunity to meet your son Cary on a recent trip to Halifax and had heard many good things about him from our son, Jordan. Jordan appreciated his good humour and easy-going nature and was excited about him joining the soccer team. Our heartfelt sympathies are with you and your family during this time of unimaginable loss and grief. Sincerely, Glenda & Len
Dear Brenda,
This comes from Camrose. Although I have not had the chance to meet your son Cary, I heard so much about him from my boys, Chris and Aaron. They are the Roofers he worked for last year and was to resume work with next week. Chris, in particular, will miss him dearly. He saw him as a friend with whom he enjoyed several outings outside work. They shared many similar interests in snowboarding, moutain climbing, and music. Both my boys are in complete shock, as you and your family must be. As a mother, I feel your pain and pray for God’s comfort to help you go on. From what I heard and read about Cary, he touched many people in his short life. He was a real gift. My sincere condolences on this awful loss.
Dyane Gagnon
There are no words to describe the loss of Cary to this world. He was one of the most genuine, caring, funny and smart guys I have ever had the pleasure to meet and be friends with. I have so many great memories with Cary from skiing, hockey, dinners, road trips to just spending time with him in general. No matter what Cary was doing there was a smile on his face and he would enjoy it to the fullest. Cary will be greatly missed and I feel blessed to have known him.
My thoughts and prayers are with Beau, Per and Brenda

Thinking of you,
Kevin Simpson and Pam Woodall
I was so sorry to hear what happened to Cary this past week. Nothing I can say will make this devastating event any easier to bear but I wanted you to know I’m thinking of you all. Cary is the only child whose name I recall from my first year in Sunalta, when he introduced himself as, “I’m Cary, as in Cary Grant”. Who could forget that? I remember him well as a wonderful student and friend to everybody. He’ll be missed.
Sincerely,
Deirdre Richardson
Carey was one of Lauchlin’s most cherished friends and one out of that bunch of ruffians that Anne and I never tired of. Carey the quiet achiever, a leader on and off the pitch, and that polite good looking boy who always was willing to spend a minute to humour the myriad of questions from the ‘parents’ on the details of that day’s or night’s planned activities. He was part of the fabric of the neighbourhood and is already profoundly missed. We are devastated on the loss of such a promising young man – his passing just reminds us how precious those damn kids are no matter what shenanigans they may get into as well as how fleeting life is. Our hearts are heavy and full of compassion for you all – we wish we were able to join in the celebration of a wonderful, albeit short, life. Much love from the Toms family (Sydney Australia).
Per, Brenda and Beau, our deepest condolences on your loss of Carey. our hearts go out to you all.

Brenda, it is always so difficult to know what to say at a time like this. Cary was a great guy and you will be hearing that sentiment told in many different ways by many different people. Keep those thoughts and stories in a safe place close to your heart. Then in the weeks and months and years to come when You, Beau or Per are feeling the pain of your loss you can pull them out to help replace the tears with a smile.
John & Gjoa
Dear Per and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours during this most difficult time.
Sorry to hear about your loss Per, if you need anything let me know.
Again, sorry for your loss.
Per, I’m so sad for your family’s terrible loss of your son. The fact that my daughter is exactly 3 months older and always on the road, brings even the thought of losing one’s child really close to home and too much to bear. May you find the strength and courage. I know I speak for your many movie teamster friends in offering our help if there’s anything we can do.
