Obituary of SUTHERLAND – Timothy John
September 30, 1964 – April 24, 2011
Timothy John Sutherland lost his life at the age of 46, after a courageous one-year struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Tim graduated from DP Todd Secondary High School in Prince George. He obtained a Diploma of Technology in Electrical/Electronics from BCIT and a Diploma of Computer Technology in Information Systems from SAIT. He enjoyed science and technology, camping, and hiking. Tim will be remembered as a kind and gentle man and a committed volunteer who saw the value in providing support to individuals less fortunate than himself by sharing his time and personal experiences.
Tim is survived by his father, John Sutherland, his loving sister Deanna Malcolm, her husband Dan, and their two children Tyler and Megan, his Aunt Jean Okrusko, Uncle Doug (Doris) Sundlie, Aunt Arlene (Harry) Johnson, Uncle George (Pat) Sutherland, Aunt Sister Agnes Sutherland and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret (Peggy) Sutherland.
Deepest appreciation to the ALS Society and the ALS Clinic for their support throughout Tim’s illness. Additional thanks to Dr.’s Rimmer, Shergill, and Slanwich and the excellent nurses on Unit 49 at the PLC. Special thanks to Holly Gerrish who gave Tim the gift of peace, comfort and companionship in the last weeks of his life.
