Obituary of CHAD – Ruth Irene

March 28, 1931 – April 19, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Ruth Irene (Miller) Chad, on April 19, 2011. Ruth was born March 28, 1931 in Zehner, Saskatchewan and had just recently celebrated her 80th birthday. She was immensely proud of her nascent family, rural roots and Western upbringing and was always quick to draw on those sound sensibilities. As such, she remained fiercely independent and industrious her entire life. In her teenage years Ruth moved to Regina to finish high school. Shortly after beginning her professional career as an oil and gas secretary in Regina, she moved to Calgary where she met Stanley Joseph Chad. The two were married October 8, 1955 and together had two sons: Jeffrey Jordan and Stanley Robert Chad. Ruth immensely enjoyed outdoor pursuits such as skiing and hiking and was quick to try something new. Her friends were important to her and together they enjoyed traveling extensively as well as many social occasions. Mother rarely sat still and was always working with several projects at once. She was a housewife, secretary, homemaker, mother, friend, artist, designer, accountant to the family’s business, fashionista, contractor, manager, builder, and Grandmother. Ruth was tireless and demanding of herself and those around her. It is these qualities that we will remember most. Ruth is survived by her sons Jeff (Susan) and Rob (Laurel) Chad and by her grandchildren Andrew, Kaitlin, Bretton and Kara. She is survived by her sisters Helen Philley, Anne Heath and Hilda Bancescue as well as by her brothers Butch, Lyle and David Miller. She is also survived by a large and wonderful extended family. She was a strong and determined woman who was always busy and greatly influenced those around her. We will miss the lively conversations with her and her unwavering sense of right and wrong. We are immensely grateful for the help of so many caring and dedicated individuals that have assisted in the care of our mother during her illness. We also are grateful for all the visits and kind words and encouragement from so many family members and friends. She passed surrounded by family and good friends. There will be a service celebrating our mother’s life at the Calgary Golf and Country Club (one and one half blocks west of Elbow Drive on 50th Avenue S.W.) on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
