Obituary of ARMBRUST– Margaret Theresa

October 18, 1917 – April 15, 2011 Armbrust (nee Vietto), Margaret Theresa has gone to her eternal rest to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on April 15, 2011 at 93 years of age. Margaret was born in Calgary to Giovanni and Francesca Vietto on October 18, 1917, in the community of Bridgeland / Riverside. She attended St. Angela Elementary School and St. Mary’s High School. She sang in the choir at OLPH parish and never missed a five a.m. chance to sing the Litany of the Saints in Latin. She was quite the baseball player in her youth and until the past few years, she enjoyed watching baseball and her beloved Calgary Stampeders. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and that was evident in her cooking. She married Henry Armbrust in 1936 and they lived in Calgary and then Medicine Hat where Henry was stationed in the POW camp in WWII. Margaret and Henry returned to Calgary and then spent some time in Vancouver, but back to Calgary in the early 1960’s. Calgary is where Margaret stayed to enjoy her three daughters and family. She was a woman, who despite some struggles in her life, always kept her faith and loved her family deeply. She took care of her aging parents and never regretted a moment of it. Margaret loved the family picnics and her potato salad was everyone’s favourite. She enjoyed the occasional weekend where her sisters-in-law came to visit and the German coffee cakes were made from dawn until sunset. She took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens, and made the most delicious preserves and pies. Her spaghetti dinners were a family favourite. Margaret leaves behind her daughters, Doreen and Patti Marrale (Garth); granddaughters Marla Cohen (Steve), Tracey Le Sann, and Tina Marrale; grandsons Michael Gradishar (Catherine McLachlan), and Brent Marrale; son-in-law Ralph Gradishar; and eight of the most delightful great-grandchildren you could ever imagine, Sean, Larissa, Elizabeth, Mikaila, Sarah, Samantha, Emet, Tyler; sister-in-law Bev Armbrust; cousin Aurora Brandelli; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins she treasured and enjoyed family celebrations and get togethers with. Margaret enjoyed her years working at Eaton’s, St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver as a physio aide, and at the Calgary Board of Education until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish for many years, where she was baptised in 1917. Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her husband Henry; daughter Marlene; grandson Randy; brothers Maurice (Mushy) and Peter; sister Mary; and many more family members she loved so very much. We are certain she will have an awesome reunion with them all.
