Obituary of NICHOLSON – Gordon Jens Perry

August 9, 1924 – April 10, 2011 It is with deep felt emotion that we announce the passing of Gord Nicholson. Born in Fenwood, Saskatchewan, at a very early age Gord and his family moved to Lynn Valley in North Vancouver. He attended school there, graduating from North Vancouver High School. At the age of 17 it was his honour to join Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and proudly served his country overseas in World War II. Discharged in 1946, he continued to reside in England until 1956 when returning from a visit to Canada, fate seated him next to Day Harman on the airplane. By the time the plane landed, he had made up him mind that this was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and they were married on September 7th, 1956. Upon their return to Canada, he joined Gulf Oil in Vancouver. Gord’s passion in life was his family and he and Day were overjoyed to welcome their three children, Donna, John, and Ian. The family moved to Calgary in 1961, settling in Glenbrook to raise their children. Gord spent many years in the oil and gas industry, retiring from Gulf Oil in 1984. After retirement, Gord and Day caught the travel bug and took many trips across North America, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and England. As they aged, Gord remained fiercely devoted to his wife, taking great care of her until her passing last year. His life was defined by the love he had for his family and the pride he displayed in his day to day life. Gord was predeceased by his wife Day, and is survived by his three children Donna (John Geib), John and Ian (Nicole Wright); grandchildren Kathleen (Aaron Dengler), Matthew, Nathan, Daniel, Joel, Katelyn, Gordon, and Alexander; and great-grandchildren Taylor and Gracie. He will be loved and missed by all.
