Obituary of HARGRAVE – Ralph Carleton
December 10, 1920 – April 3, 2011
Ralph Hargrave, beloved husband of Mary Hargrave of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the age of 90 years.
Ralph was born and raised in Redcliff, AB. He received his education in Redcliff and in Medicine Hat. Ralph graduated from U of A in 1943 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Immediately following his graduation, Ralph joined the Army where he attained the rank of Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Engineers serving during WWII. Following the War, Ralph established his Civil Engineering career in the construction industry working on many projects across Canada and around the world. Ralph retired in 1986, devoting his energies to his family; especially his grandchildren. Water colour artwork, travelling, music and golf were some of the other passions in Ralph’s life.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife Mary; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Myrna, and Ross and Val; daughter and son-in-law Lois and Chris Moody; five grandchildren, Jenn (Craig) Barnstable, Ashley Hargrave, Evan Sketchley, Kate Sketchley, and Chris Robertson (Kari); three great grandchildren, Lennon Barnstable, Seth Robertson and Norah Robertson; brother Donald (Noreen) Hargrave; and a special family friend John Kupis.
He was predeceased by his daughter Dawn; granddaughter Linda Cooper; brother Richard Hargrave; and his parents Carl and Aimee Hargrave.
Memorial Services will be held at Scarboro United Church (134 Scarboro Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through .
