Obituary of McCALLUM – Joan
November 1, 1918 – April 1, 2011
Joan McCallum, also known as “Doze” to many, passed away quietly on April 1, 2011. She left the world very loved, just as she entered it on November 1, 1918, All Saints Day (a fitting coincidence). She is survived by family members niece Lucile Edwards, grandnieces Martha Edwards, Emily and Rachel Olfson, Lucy Hunt and grandnephew Fred Edwards (Alissa), nephews Malcolm Hunt(Suzy), Schuyler Hunt(Chris), niece Melinda Hunt, brother-in-law Warren Hunt and close friends Margie Gallagher and Margaret Cleaveley.
Joan spent the early years of her life living on Deer Creek Ranch near Paradise Hill, SK. She moved to Calgary in 1953 with her father, living in possibly the smallest house in Calgary and enjoying a long and successful career with Canada Manpower. She loved horses, dogs, gardening, travelling and socializing, but her main priority was her family. Steadfastly loyal, selfless and considerate, she devoted her life to her family and friends. She was forever the auntie with a mint in her purse and fresh batch of cookies or a pie in the oven. She was also full of surprises – particularly when she appeared in the movie FUBAR at the age of 84!
She joins her grandmother Kate, her father William, mother Maud, sister Patricia and brother Ian in heaven.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8 Street S.W.,) on April 19, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Memorial tributes may be made directly to Holy Trinity Church (The Little Stone Church) c/o Norman Moore, Box 119, Paradise Hill, SK S0M 2G0.
