Obituary of DAVENPORT – Harold Ernest

September 26, 1940 – March 30, 2011 Harold passed away peacefully at the Foothills Country Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70 years. Harold is survived by his wife Anne; son James (Amber); sister Jane, special cousins Mary Lynn and Dick Micklich of Idaho Falls; along with numerous other extended family members and close friends. Harold will be sadly missed by his family. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Harold Davenport, Sr. Harold was raised in Whitehorse, Yukon and at the age of five the family moved to Edmonton where he attended H.A. Gray Elementary School, Spruce Avenue Junior High School and Victoria Composite High School. After two years in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta, Harold decided to enrol in Aeronautical Engineering at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and graduated with honours in 1965. Upon graduation, he moved to Montreal and worked for United Aircraft and also met his future wife Anne Kell. Harold returned to Calgary and was with ATCO Industries. Shortly after returning he realized that he would like to have Anne join him in Calgary – she did. They were married on December 2, 1967. Anne and Harold were blessed with their son James in 1980. In 1978 Harold became involved in the sales of truck mounted cranes and equipment and was well respected for his knowledge along with engineering skills and made many friends over the past 33 years and continued to be involved until the last few months. Harold was passionate about politics and became involved both federally and provincially. He worked with the Reform and Conservative parties in S.W. Calgary and contributed many hours including fundraising and involved in all aspects of running campaign offices during elections. In October 2009 he was instrumental in organizing and arranging a new board of directors for Wildrose Alliance in High River. In 2005 Harold was honoured to be awarded The Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition of his commitment to Calgary and Alberta. Harold was a car enthusiast and owned approximately 60 cars and spent many Saturday mornings test driving the latest models. Harold was a keen golfer and along with Anne played River`s Edge, Elbow Springs Golf Club. He semi-retired in 2007 and moved to High River, they joined the Highwood Golf Club where they spent many pleasant days golfing and meeting new friends.
