Obituary of PRESTON – James Darby

September 19, 1962 – March 29, 2011 Jim Preston beloved husband of Fiona of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the age of 48 years. Jim was born in Vancouver, grew up in Edmonton and lived in Calgary since the early eighties. From 1989 to 2005, Jim taught and mentored students at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School in outdoor and physical education. Through his passion and knowledge, he steered many people into a lifelong appreciation of outdoor adventures. Jim liked nothing better than to plan his next trip into his beloved mountains. He shared many skiing, hiking and climbing adventures with friends and families. An avid traveler, Jim loved to surf in Australia, climb mountains in Nepal and snorkel in the Pacific Islands. Besides his loving wife Fiona, Jim is survived by his mother Nancy Preston; sister Jean Greenshields; brothers Alan and Jeff Preston; and nieces and nephew, Meredith, Jillian and Preston Greenshields. Jim was predeceased by his father David. He also leaves his loving in-laws, Colin and Marjorie McPhail, Alistair McPhail, Stuart McPhail, his wife Linda Brown and their children Hamish and Rory. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 – 40th Street S.E.) on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
