Obituary of RATKE – Hedwig Hermine

May 30, 1923 – March 27, 2011 Hedwig Hermine Ratke passed away March 27, 2011 as a result of pneumonia. She was born in Rollyview, AB to Friedrich and Amalia Hammermeister. She left the family farm to work for a year in Vancouver, B.C., returning home she married Herdwick H. Ratke on June 22, 1950 and had two children, Keith and Sharon. Her husband’s oilfield work took her to many places in Alberta, B.C., Perth, Western Australia and on a tour around the world. returning to Edmonton and then Calgary. Her husband’s work with Pan Arctic Oils gave her a tour of the Arctic Islands. Later she worked as the bookkeeper for her husband’s oilfield consulting firm. A severe stroke in 1998, left her with a speech problem, but she led a contented life enjoying 61 years of marriage. She leaves behind her loving husband Herdwick; son Keith Ratke; daughter Sharon (Ted) Kuipers; her sister Ida Hammermeister and 17 nieces and nephews.
