Obituary of BLACKSTAFFE – Resa

September 1, 1918 – March 22, 2011 Resa was born in Saskatoon, raised and schooled in Calgary where she worked for the tax department after graduating from Crescent Heights High School. A 1944 war bride, she and her husband Jack moved to Red Deer in 1948 and there raised their three boys – Russ, Walt and Ted. Mom filled many roles in our lives: tutor, coach, guide, banker, nurse, boss, chauffeur, teacher and always a partner to Dad. Post kids, Resa and Jack moved to Canmore to operate an auto parts shop. They then retired to Carstairs where golf, sun and gardening all enjoyed longer seasons. Resa’s pastimes included bridge, curling, skiing, bowling, reading, cards, golf, ping-pong, movies, pool, accounting and an occasional pint. We’ll miss being greeted by her quick wit and ready smile. A full life, a long life, much and dearly loved, Resa passed quietly Tuesday evening. Resa is survived by her sons Russell (Joan) Blackstaffe and Walter (Patti) Blackstaffe; daughter-in-law Cara Schelske; grandchildren, Adam (Anita), Jesse, Bree, Nadia (Kevin), Isaac, Bronwyn, Alexander and Mitchell; and great-grandchildren Milo and Sam; as well as nieces and nephews, Leslie (Gary), Dave, Karen (Ken) and Phillip. Mom was predeceased by elder sisters Eileen and Enid; husband Jack; and youngest son Ted. At Resa’s request, no formal service will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family thanks the staff of the Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs and those of the Mayfair Care Centre in Calgary for their dedication to care and comfort these past two years. In living memory of Resa Blackstaffe, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
