Obituary of NESDOLY – Victor Vic Ronald
August 27, 1934 – March 20, 2011
Victor “Vic” Ronald Nesdoly, beloved husband of Marion Nesdoly of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the age of 76 years after a brief battle with cancer. His lifelong family also knew him as a loving, devoted father, brother, uncle and friend.
Vic was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Paul and Rachel Nesdoly. His mother died when Victor was four years old. He shared his early childhood in Cando, Saskatchewan with his siblings, Clarence (Susan), Paul (Jeanette), Mace, Marjoire, Rosalind (Joe), and Joyce (Albert).
At age fourteen, in 1948, he packed a backpack and jumped a westbound train with his brother Clarence and ventured forth into the world to find adventure and “earn a fortune”. He met and married his wife Marion Lovig in Irma, Alberta. They met at a community hall dance and spent almost fifty-six years together raising their family and enjoying the Alberta outdoors during camping, fishing and snowmobiling activities.
Vic worked hard as a self-taught heavy equipment operator for many years in various industries including logging, pipeline and construction. The remote locations took him across Canada to British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. In the midst of these travels his four children were born.
His people and technical skills led to a successful role as an owner-operator of a mobile crane. His numerous contributions to the Calgary skyline included the Saddledome, hospitals, bridges, schools, and refineries.
Besides his loving wife of fifty-four years, Victor is survived by his brother Paul and his sisters Rosalind and Joyce. He is also survived by his four children, Dennis (Pamela), Dianne (Ted), Deb (Greg), and Donna; grandchildren, Shannon Shantz, Tricia, Meghan, Moira and Rory McMahon, Parker and Sean Nesdoly; and great-grandchild Amelia McMahon. He was predeceased by his siblings, Clarence, Mace and Marjoire and his grandson Jason Shantz.
At Vic’s request there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering has been arranged. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
