Obituary of OAKES – Robert John

May 7, 1930 – March 15, 2011 Robert (Bob) Oakes, beloved husband of Frances Oakes of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the age of 80 years. Bob was born in Vancouver, BC. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a young man and the army was his career for twenty seven years. He served overseas with the United Nations in England, Cyprus and Egypt. After discharge from the army, he worked for the City of Calgary for a further seventeen years. He loved to go camping and fishing and like his wife Frances (1931 – 2010), spent many years at the curling club. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Diane (Robert) Yates and Heather Archer and grandchildren Rhiannon, Melina, Nicholas and Thomas; brother Vern (Gina) Oakes, sister Bonnie and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at The Garrison Curling Club (2288 – 47 Avenue S.W., Calgary) at 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
