Obituary of FEA – Alice Isabel
August 10, 1914 – March 13, 2011
Alice “Isabel” Fea passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the age of 96 years after a special afternoon of visits by close friends and family.
Isabel was born August 10, 1914 to Charles and Margaret (Mooney) Ames on the family farm near Milestone, SK where she attended school by horse and buggy/sleigh. Isabel then went to Normal School in Regina and taught in southern Saskatchewan before going to the U of S in Saskatoon, where she met Frederick Robert (Bert) Fea from Saltcoats, SK. They married on September 1, 1941, took their final year of chemistry at U of S, and spent the rest of WW II in Winnipeg working in the lab of a munitions plant. They had their first sons, Bob and Fraser, before moving to Moose Jaw where Bert worked for Robin Hood Flour Mills and they had their third son Brian. In 1954, Bert’s work brought them to Calgary. Isabel very much enjoyed her involvement with her UCW group at St. Matthew’s United Church. In 1962, when Bert decided to pursue a teaching career, Isabel started substitute teaching, which she enjoyed until she broke her right hip in 1968 and her left hip in 1969. After many hip operations and a neck fusion, she was eventually confined to a wheel chair. This did not prevent Bert and Isabel from enjoying retirement and travelling to many places in North America including Hawaii.
Isabel will be lovingly remembered by Bob and Carol and their three children, Patrick (Cathy-deceased, children Gariella and Taylor), Ryan, Sheri Entwistle (Jason, children Madison, Brooklyn, and Piper-Laurie), by Fraser and by Brian and Dale and their two children Scott and Kelley. Isabel is also in the hearts of numerous nephews and nieces all around the world. Defying all odds, Isabel Fea outlived her four siblings and her loving husband Bert Fea with whom she shared sixty-seven years.
A Celebration of Isabel’s Life will be held at St. Matthew’s United Church (2039 – 26A Street S.W.) on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made directly to St. Matthew’s United Church, 2039 – 26A Street S.W. Calgary, AB T3E 2B9. The family would like to express their appreciation to companion Leslie and the staff of the Evergreen Unit at The Beverley Centre Midnapore.
In living memory of Isabel Fea, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
