Obituary of ISAACS – Jessie Maggie

Jessie Maggie (Peters) Isaacs passed away on March 12, 2011 at home surrounded by family at the age of 100 years. Jessie was born and raised in Trochu Alberta to William (Bill) and Maggie Glennie (Walker) Peters. She worked on the family homestead until moving to Calgary in 1930 where she met and married James Bretton Isaacs from Burin Newfoundland in 1935. Jessie and Jim had three children before his passing in 1943. In addition to her husband, Jessie was predeceased by her sister Lil, brothers Duncan and Arthur, her half brothers Beverly and Gordan and son-in-law Danny Copithorne. Jessie will be remembered as a hard working magnificent lady whose sense of humour and unstoppable spirit were as vibrant as her unforgettable red hair. Above all Jessie loved her family and worked hard to provide for them until her retirement in 1975. She was an active volunteer with the Grace Presbyterian Church and the Royal Purple. She enjoyed puttering in her garden, following her beloved chuckwagon races, playing cards with family and friends and keeping everyone’s cupboards full of her famous baking. Jessie leaves behind a legacy of love. She is proudly survived by her children: Fran Copithorne, Robert (Jeannette) Isaacs and J.B. ”Bev” (Wendy) Isaacs; her nine grandchildren: Karen, Brett, Todd (Frankie), Scott (Jen), Jodie (Matt), Tammy (Brian), Jason (Julie), Tanya and Robin (Dave); and her sixteen great grandchildren: Jaime, Connor, Mackenzie, Bayley, Riley, Avery, Hayden, Katie, Mason, Sarah, Nicholas, Hudson, Madelyn, Abigail Jessie, Thomas and Alexander . The family would like to thank her dear friends who brightened Jessie’s last days with their calls and visits. We would also like to thank all of the wonderful staff of Palliative Home Care, Wecare and Dr. Delee Rohatinsky for taking such great care of “Grams.” 100 years of life well lived will be celebrated at a Memorial Service for Jessie at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15 Ave S.W.) on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in Jessie’s memory may be made to Stars Air Ambulance and the Salvation Army.
