Obituary of LEHUNE – Nicholas

May 10, 1919 – February 19, 2011 Nicholas Lehune of Calgary, passed away on February 19, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Born in Smoky Lake, Alberta, Nicholas was the fourth of seven surviving siblings of Mary and John, Ukrainian immigrants to Canada just after Alberta entered into confederation. Nicholas joined the Army and served from 1939 as a driver trainer in England and tank artillery man during World War II. He saw action across Europe, survived the Battle of Normandy and was honourably discharged 3 October 1945. He found employment at the Unemployment Insurance Agency in Edmonton, where he met and married Alice Laskiwski in 1950 and fathered two children, Valerie and Monica. Nicholas is survived by daughter Valerie Macauley, grandsons Martin Sitter, Ryan (Lisa) and Kieran, and granddaughters Elana and Mera. Nicholas was predeceased by his wife Alice in 1992, his daughter Monica in 2000, and was the last surviving sibling.
