Obituary of DATTILO – Carmelita
June 9, 1915 – February 15, 2011
Carmelita Dattilo, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away peacefully on February 15, 2011.
Carmelita was born on June 6, 1915 in Mongrassano, Cosenza, Italy and moved to Calgary to be with her family in 1999.
She is survived by her children Giovanni (Maria) Cervo, Aurora (Giovanni) Spoletini, daughter in law Franca Cervo; grandchildren Joanne Melicchio, Tony Melicchio, Paul (Wendy) Cervo, Peter (Tracy) Cervo, Carmelina (Paul) Dery, Tony (Lisa) Spoletini, Ida (Frank) Durante, Giuseppe (Jesse) Spoletini; great-grandchildren Sean Melicchio, Tony and Nicole Melicchio, Katherine and Rachele Cervo, Marcus and Lucas Dery, Giancarlo, Domenic and Matteo Spoletini, Sofia and Giulianna Durante; siblings Faustino Dattilo and Marietta Dattilo. ”Zia Carmela” will also be lovingly remembered by her very special nieces Maria (Ernesto) Sarro and Anna (Peter) Perrotta.
She was predeceased by her husband Paolino Cervo, son Francesco Cervo, daughter Maddalena Melicchio, grandson Giuseppe Spoletini, son in law Giorgio Melicchio and siblings Francesco Dattilo, Angelo Dattilo and Angelina Dattilo.
Although our Carmelita only came to live with us in 1999, we are forever grateful to have spent the past 12 years together. It is a true gift when great grandchildren can share their lives with their “Bisnonna”.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. We would also thank our dear friend Loretta Ferronato for always treating our mother like her own.
