Obituary of SCOTT – Charles Albert

April 1, 1933 – February 11, 2011 CWO (retired) – Korean War Veteran Charles Scott passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 11, 2011 following a two-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of fifty-eight years Josephine Scott (nee Wick); his children Dr. Kenneth (Lynn) Scott, Dr. Selma Scott (Dr. Terry Stewart), Kathy (Cary) McGraw, Glenn (Cheryl) Scott; thirteen grandchildren; and three precious great-grandchildren, Shane, Chandra, Lisa, Sonja, Nadia (Jason Leavitt and children Alina and Max), Alina, James, Kealy (Justin Lambert and baby Mitchell), Nicole, Julia, Matthew, Wesley and Cory. Charles was born in Dodsland, SK but grew up in North Battleford. At age 17 he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and served in Korea. He was proud to be a Canadian War Veteran. The Canadian Military was his career and brought him and his wife and children years of travel and adventure before retiring in 1982 as the Senior Chief Warrant Officer, Weapons Technician, for the Canadian Forces. Charles and Josephine returned to Calgary to live out their retirement in 1986. Charles is survived by five siblings, Walter (Margaret) Scott, Anne Shiplett, Flora Webber, June (Gord) Shiplett, and Doris (Walter) Sand; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank both Charles’ and Josephine’s families for their support to Charles and Josephine during his battle with cancer, especially his sister-in-law Edna Wick who graciously drove him to many of his treatment appointments, kept them company for dinners out and a game of dice at home. The military was his career, but his hobby was constructing (or deconstructing) and his retirement years were filled with his projects. He was deeply committed to his wife and family and was always there for them. He would rub his hands in glee when a snowstorm struck, hoping that someone’s car would require a boost, or a grandchild would need a ride to school or an activity. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
