Obituary of SMITH – Edward Arthur
April 16, 1920 – February 10, 2011
Edward Arthur Smith passed away at the age of 90 years in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 10, 2011 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. For 58 years, he was the beloved husband of Alice Marguerite Smith (nee Snoxell), who passed away on February 5, 2007.
Ed was born in Regina, SK on April 16, 1920. As a young man he proudly played baseball for the Regina Caps. Ed was always a great sports fan–football, hockey, and baseball–as well as an avid golfer and bowler.
After being discharged from the army during WW11, he worked for British American Oil in Regina. He was transferred to Calgary, and it was here that he met Alice. They were married on March 25, 1948. They spent a short time in Vancouver, but when they returned to Calgary, Ed spent the next thirty-two years with Pan Canadian Oil.
Ed is lovingly remembered by his daughter Sandra (Bill) Beers, daughter Janice (Scotty) Scott, and precious grandson Jesse Edward Smith Scott. He also leaves his brothers Walter and Harold (Vi); many nieces, nephews and cousins; and sister-in-law Leona Snoxell. Ed was predeceased by his parents; infant sister Edith; sister Min (Don) Richardson; sister-in-law Mabel Smith; nephew Rodney Smith; and brother-in-law Keith Snoxell.
