Obituary of FERCHAU – Carl Kurt

July 12, 1945 – February 6, 2011 Carl Ferchau, beloved husband of Frances Ferchau, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the age of 65 years. Carl immigrated to Canada from East Germany and arrived in Quebec City on his birthday, July 12, 1950. He resided with his family in Redcliffe, Alberta. His next adventure was Calgary, Alberta where he attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and was awarded his Diploma in Petroleum Technology. This is where Carl met his beloved wife and started his family. Following the oil and gas industry Carl spent many years working in Calgary Airport security. He retired five years ago, but recently kept busy with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Carl adored his family and most recently, loved spending time with his grandson Navan and many others, who captured his attention. Carl had a very inquisitive nature and loved talking with people . He was famous for his stories, loved to laugh and get a reaction out of everyone. Carl loved sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Red Wings. He was also an avid New York Yankees fan. Carl was a world traveller and also enjoyed driving throughout Canada and the United States. Carl is survived by his wife Frances; daughter Sandi; son Greg; grandson Navan; brother-in-law Brian Halas; sister Elfrieda (Jake) Eichele; brother Alfred (Jillian) Ferchau; Ellen Ferchau; nieces and nephews Audrey (Brad) Pavlich, Richard Eichele, Carol (Robert) Ferchau, Steven (Judith) Ferchau, Dianne (Colin) Atter. Carl was predeceased by his parents Karl and Selma. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
