Obituary of DODGINGHORSE – Duane Farley

February 25, 1958 – February 7, 2011 Duane Dodginghorse of Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the age of 52 years. Duane was a fine example to all who knew him, showing them how to live a life full of dignity, courage, kindness and love in spite of many challenges that he faced over his lifetime. Duane loved music and was a gifted guitar and harmonica player. He was an avid chess player, once being ranked as a Grandmaster, and dart player. Duane passed his chess knowledge onto many family and friends. He enjoyed hunting was a fan of many sports. In his younger days Duane excelled in Rodeo and was a gifted hockey player. He was well known for his talent in both. Duane loved to expand his knowledge and zest for life; reading novels, Hunting Magazines, and chess books. He always honed his writing skills throughout his life. Duane attended the University of Calgary and the Saskatchewan Indian Federation College in the late eighties and early nineties. He loved all his family and friends and was kind hearted and wise. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the Rockyview Hospital for their care during Duane’s stay especially the staff in ICU. Duane is survived by his wife Agnesrose Dodginghorse; adopted children Matthew and Rachel; his mother Jean Dodginghorse; grandmother Katie Dodginghorse; sisters, Sharon Whitney and Elaine (Dean) Simon; brothers, Marvin (Marie) Dodginghorse and Randy Dodginghorse; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Harry Dodginghorse Sr.; his sister Carrie Joy; brothers Byron, Dale and Harry Jr.; and his beloved companion, his German Shepard dog Grizzly. Wake Services will be held at Duane’s residence 40 Cattledip Road (Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB) on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. a Feast at his home will follow on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church (Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB) on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. ending with a Graveside Service at Tsuu T’ina Nation Cemetery.
