Obituary of HIGGIN – James Clifford

March 20, 1930 – January 31, 2011 Jim Higgin, beloved husband of Doreen of Calgary, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the age of 80 years. A native Calgarian, Jim lived in the same house in Killarney for 70 years, and was passionate about meticulously maintaining his home and large yard. While he worked in the oil and gas industry for 38 years, Jim was a devoted family man, who took great pride in the accomplishments of his girls. He often said, “the best years of my life” were spent keeping score at softball games, whether in rain, snow, or sunshine. Jim drove to hundreds of music lessons, attended countless choral and band concerts, and loved the family road trips to the farm. Through his grandchildren, he was again, thoroughly enjoying the pleasure of watching the next generation grow into teens and young adults. Jim is survived by his wife Doreen, children Elizabeth Paynter (Graham), Leslie Nerland (Mark) and grandchildren Joshua and Rebecca, Ryan, Scott, Jesse, and Alyssa, and brother Randy (Hilda.) He was predeceased by two sisters, Anne and Kathleen. A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (100, 119-14 St. N.W. Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6) or the Canadian Cancer Society (200-325 Manning Rd. N.E. Calgary AB T2E 2P5.) Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
