Obituary of HUDZ – Mary Elizabeth

Mary Hudz of Calgary, passed away on January 29, 2011. Mary was born in Tajkury, Poland; the middle child of Czelowa Breguniez and Walter Paszkowski. At a very early age the family moved to Canada to the Sexsmith area. Mary’s life was rich and varied in experiences from early childhood to her death. In her early years she was raised in very humble circumstances in a lifestyle that no longer exists today. Driven by a vision to improve her opportunity and build on the many sacrifices of her parents, Mary pursued the scholastic opportunities presented in Sexsmith and completed at St. Josephs Academy, Grande Prairie, which paved the way for a lifelong career in Business Administration. Even in her early years Mary demonstrated her creativity in music, art and dance. This later proved to be a source of great satisfaction, as Mary was to win school awards in dancing, played the church organ, sang in choirs and used her talents as an artist to design drawings and murals for major community events. Most of Mary’s working career was spent in Calgary in the Property Management field where she established herself as an astute business woman. Certainly this was the right place to be during these past fifty years. It was here where most of her best friendships and lifetime highlights were to be made. Mary became seriously involved in Ballroom Dancing where she won International Awards in New York, Miami, San Francisco and Las Vegas. Sponsored by Merle Norman, Mary also won International Modelling Competitions at the Waldorf Astoria, New York. Mary loved to travel where she enjoyed the beautiful art of European and North American art galleries. Her hard work and determination to succeed was a template for success. She will be sadly missed. Mary is survived by her sister Jean of Chilliwack, BC and brother Walter of Sexsmith, AB, and several nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Czelowa and Walter, husband Phillip, and child Phillip. A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street S.W., Calgary) on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at The Grande Prairie Cemetery at a later date.
