BRODNER Larson

Obituary of BRODNER – Larson

September 30, 1948 – January 28, 2011 Larson Brodner, beloved husband of Trudy Brodner and father of Alex, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the age of 62 years. Larson was born (1948) and raised in Montreal spending summers at a dairy farm in Gaspe, QC where he fell through the hay loft one year. As a young man he moved to London, ON and then later Edmonton. He was horrified when he looked at a map and found that Edmonton was the same latitude as James Bay. He then moved to Calgary where he found the love of his life, where he married and had two sons, Matthew (b1985, d2006) and Alex (b1987). His career spanned from oil and gas companies, to the Alberta Research Council, to engineering firms and for awhile, he did private consulting. These jobs took him around the world where he had many adventures, and sometimes misadventures as he traveled to China, Pakistan, Russia, Ecuador, Peru and Iran to name a few. His favourite time though was with his family camping in Penticton in the Okanogan Valley where Alex would attend hockey school, Matt would go rock climbing, and all would go to Tickleberry’s for ice cream. Larson loved to ski, ride a motorbike (although both those stopped after the bike accident) golf, and go sailing. His retirement plans were to go to Victoria where he could golf and sail for ten months of the year and the other two would be spent down south somewhere. After recovering from a massive stroke in early 2008, he was afflicted with ALS which rapidly took his life. Larson was always known as having a great sense of humor and friends and business acquaintances used words like kind, gracious and an honest business partner to describe him. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Christopher and Emily and his son Matthew; he will be laid to rest next to Matthew. A private family service will be held.
