Obituary of BRAGG – Rachel

January 29, 1915 – January 27, 2011 It is with sadness we announce the passing of Rachel, who died peacefully on January 27. Rachel was the last of the second generation of the Bragg family that originally settled near Bragg Creek in 1892. Rachel was born on a farm near Strathmore, one of nine children of Frank and Mary Harriman, and raised during the Great Depression. She married the love of her life Norman Bragg in 1935. They had five children. Norman taught in various schools east of Calgary until they settled in Standard, AB in 1944. Following Norman’s sudden death in 1960, Rachel and her family moved to Calgary. There she took in boarders for many years, mostly students from SAIT, ACAD and the University of Calgary. Rachel will unquestionably be remembered as a deeply kind and compassionate woman with a gentle laugh and a thirst for knowledge. Her love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were equalled only by the love of her husband, from whom she was parted too soon, and anticipated meeting again. Rachel is survived by children John (Barbara) Bragg, Norma Christensen, Allan (Susan) Bragg, Robert (Joanne) Bragg, Mary Lee (Colin) Bragg; brother Norman Harriman; ten grandchildren five great-grandchildren and one special great-great-grandchild Rachel Lily Suppin. She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens and Cemetery (17th Avenue South East at Garden Road, 1515 100 Street S.E.) on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
