Obituary of VIGNA – Frank S.

November 1, 1950 – January 26, 2011 Frank S Vigna, beloved husband of Gina of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 surrounded by family at the age of 60 years. Frank was born in Sartano, Cosenza, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 with his mother and sister to meet his father who had begun their new life in Calgary. Frank started working in the printing industry at 13 and retired forty-five years later. In 1976 he married his life’s partner Gina, and celebrated 34 years together and were blessed with three children. Frank was an avid sports fan and participated and coached baseball, hockey, football, hunting and golf. He loved camping, traveling and the art of wine making. He looked forward to social events and was a great story teller. The last three years spent with his grandchildren were the highlight of his life. He will be genuinely missed by his family and friends. Frank is survived by his wife Gina; three children, Roberto (Jennifer), Ava Caputo (Mario) and Dario; grandchildren, Alessio, Marcello and Carmen; his father Luigi; and his sister Mary Masocco (Louie). He is also survived by his mother-in-law Elisa Petrillo; sisters-in-law, Gina Vigna and Liliana Belvedere (Nino); nieces, Dianna Staffa (Carlo), Claudia Laratta (Joe), Lisa Mungo (Tony), Carina and Marisa Vigna; and nephew Michael Belvedere. Frank was predeceased by his mother Paolina; his brother John; and his father-in-law Carmine Petrillo. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Ascension Catholic Church (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.) on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.) on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.
