GISH Harold Bruce

Obituary of GISH – Harold Bruce

June 19, 1919 – January 21, 2011 Harold passed away at his home of over fifty years, surrounded by loving members of his family on Friday, January 21, 2011. Harold was born and raised on a farm near Stettler, AB, where he worked alongside his parents and seven siblings to ensure their farm prospered. This work ethic served the family well and helped ensure their survival during the terribly lean years of the Great Depression. As a young man, Harold enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and proudly and bravely served his country during the Second World War. Following his career as a soldier, he worked as a school teacher in various school systems throughout southern Alberta. During those years he met, fell in love with, and married his wife of over sixty years, Irene. Harold was a dedicated educator who ended his teaching career as a head guidance counsellor at Viscount Bennett High School in 1979. Harold will be dearly missed by his wife, Irene, and two sons, Gerald and George (wife Lenore). He is also blessed with two grandchildren Jessica and Danny (wife Melissa) as well as two great grandchildren, Tory and Xander. The family will be saying their final goodbyes to commemorate the life of this fine gentleman, farm boy, veteran, and educator at a later date. We wish to thank the palliative care program in Calgary for their support but most of all wish to acknowledge the tender and devoted care provided to Dad and his family by Janet Hutton.
