Obituary of SHAW – Kevin Ernest

November 4, 1954 – January 16, 2011 It is with overwhelming sadness that Kevin’s family announces his death from a sudden heart attack at his home in Boca Raton, FL. Dr. Shaw is survived by his beloved wife Jymme and treasured children Ian and Mallory; his parents Ernie and Rosa; sisters Diane and Gina (Dan) Moore; brother John (Sandra); nephew Thomas and niece Maria Moore; all of Calgary. Kevin was born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan and grew up in Edmonton, Calgary, and Dartmouth, NS. Dr. Shaw graduated M.D. with distinction from the U of A in 1978; completed general and plastic surgery residencies at UBC in Vancouver in 1984. He became Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 1985. He then completed two fellowships- craniofacial at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and cosmetic at the Mount Sinai Medical Clinic in Miami, FL – 1987. Kevin was the Head of the Section of Plastic Surgery Mayo Clinic Jacksonville 1987-1993. He then conducted private practice at his Clinic for Plastic Surgery in Boca Raton, FL 1993-2010, and served as Chief of Surgery for Boca Raton Community Hospital 1997-1999. He has presented or published ninety-three scientific papers and chapters nationally and internationally. He was affiliated with fifteen medical associations. Kevin was a skilled Little League baseballer, recreational skier, hockey player and scuba diver. He was predeceased by his four grandparents and a baby sister. Kevin loved all his patients and had zero litigations against him. Arrangements are with Babione Funeral Home in Florida. There was a viewing at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Florida on Sunday, January 23, 2011, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Kevin’s life and service at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary) on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
