Obituary of LEATHER – Angelina Marie
Natowohkotok – Holy Rock
February 20, 1942 – January 8, 2011
Angelina Leather, beloved wife of Raymond Crowchief of Siksika Nation, AB, passed away suddenly on January 8, 2011 at the age of 68 years.
Angelina was a much respected person as she was involved and active with her cultural beliefs. She and her husband have been teepee owners for the Calgary Stampede for over twenty-five years. Angelina loved travelling to Pow Wows and she danced ladies traditional. She was also the leader of the Buffalo Woman’s Society (Motokii). She drove a school bus for the Siksika Board of Education and received a recognition award for over ten years of dedicated service as well as an award for bus safety. Angelina was a kind person whom many looked to for advice and guidance. She also liked to give advice and help others. Angelina was the #1 hockey mom and gramma. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play hockey and also loved watching her favourite team the Calgary Flames. Angelina had unconditional love and opened her heart and home and was a foster parent for twenty-five years. She had a lot of pastimes and her favourite was playing Bingo.
Angelina leaves behind her husband Raymond Crowchief; her sister Annie Running Rabbit; brothers Larry Leather (Laverna), Wayne Leather (Beverley) and Clarence (Maanee) Leather Sr.; her children, Duane (Joanne), Russell (Janet), Wanda, Sam, Julia (Quinn), Marcia (Jon), Janice, Chico and Rocky; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended families, Sitting Eagles, Jerry’s, Poor Eagles, Wolfchild, White Calf, Red Calf, Thunderchiefs, Standing Rock, Running Rabbits, Edwards, Red Old Man, Bird, Broad Scalplock, Meewaywasis, Windy Boys, Melting Tallows, Leathers and Solways. She was predeceased by her parents Amos and Edna Leather; her brothers, Clarence Leather in 1952, George Leather and Thomas Jerry; her sisters, Jean Leather, Doreen Leather and Lillian Leather; a son Shawn Davis Red Old Man; three grandchildren, Jani Weasel Head, Taylor Weasel Head and Chance Littlelight.
Wake Services will be held at the Little Washington Community Centre (Siksika Nation, AB) on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation, AB) on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow Little Washington Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB).
