Obituary of ORRISS– Lloyd David

July 15, 1923 – January 7, 2011 Lloyd passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday January 7, 2011. In his final days his children were his constant companions and his eldest son Greg was by his side as he took his last breath. To know Lloyd, was to love Lloyd. He was a true gentleman with a joyous spirit, he was always happy, kind, caring, loving, considerate; a man of deep integrity. He began his life’s journey on July 15, 1923 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Born to Margaret and David Orriss, he had the pleasure of growing up with three older siblings to watch out for him, brother Cliff, and sisters Margaret and Vera. Growing up through the Great Depression his family moved often to little towns in Saskatchewan and Alberta . In 1942 Lloyd joined the armed services, volunteering to serve his country. He was a Sergeant stationed in Nova Scotia where he undertook his basic, advanced and battle training and then went on to train other soldiers. In 1947, Lloyd married the love of his life Marion Devitt. He first met Marion when he walked into school to complete his grade 12 and this beautiful woman was his teacher. She supported him as he pursued his education and obtained a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Lloyd had a long and successful career with Butler Manufacturing Company where he worked in the sales division and eventually became National Sales Manager. During his years with Butler, mom and dad enjoyed many business related trips to places such as Jamaica, Bermuda, Florida Keys, Arizona and Cape Cod. After Lloyd retired in 1986, he and Marion toured Europe. Lloyd and Marion were happily married for 56 wonderful years. Their house was always full of friends and family, good food, joyous music and more love than you can imagine. Lloyd’s greatest joy and accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his sons Greg (Linda) and Kevin (Sara), and his daughter Ranelle Carter, beloved son-in-law Alex Carter and Julie Orriss. He has ten wonderful grand children, Jenny (Chris ) Martin, David Orriss, Christy (Jess) Seuter, Heather (Ryan) Cannady, Trevor Orriss, Emily Orriss, Alanna Orriss, and the Carter girls…Tiffany, Charmaine and Miranda. More recently Lloyd took great pride in his great granddaughters, Zoey, Autumn, Julia, and Chloe. Lloyd was predeceased by his wife Marion, his brother Cliff, sister Margaret and daughter in law Darlene. His sister Vera currently resides in Lloydminster. Special thanks to Dr. Mustata, Dr. Roode, Dr. Leung, and nurses at the RGH especially Manny and Joy for the incredible care and kindness they provided dad in his final days.
