YOUNG William Brian

Obituary of YOUNG – William Brian

September 20, 1948 – January 4, 2011 With heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce to you that our precious Bill passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the age of 62 years. Bill was predeceased by his father Bill Sr. (William J.) in 1986. Bill left this life as he lived it, with grace, integrity and dignity. Left to mourn his passing are his mother Jean Young; his wife of thirty-seven years, Karen; daughter Jen (Brian), and son Pete (Shayla). As well, Bill was “Tapa” to his precious grandchildren, Danielle and Alex, whom he so loved and cherished every moment with them. Bill is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Cate (Toronto), Donna (Dave), Marg (Kelly), Pete (Cindy), and Bob (Cecile); sister-in-law Eileen (Rob), all of Calgary. All of our nieces and nephews were each very special in their own way to Uncle Bill. He was so proud of your accomplishments and how you have grown up into such beautiful, respectful young adults. He dearly loved each and every one of you. As with all Bill’s cousins, the Moreau’s, O’Byrne’s and Bob and Pam Helwick – you are all so loved by such a beautiful man. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptionally special friendships Bill had with John Moreau, Foster Walker and Mark Ellested, as with his friends at Wellspring Calgary, we are forever grateful to all of you for being part of this beautiful man’s life. Bill attended St. Mary’s High School and attended U of C, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Commerce. He was highly regarded throughout his working career for both his diligent work ethic and his people skills. Bill was curious about the world and had a great spirit of adventure. With his increasing work responsibilities over the years, most recently with Talisman Energy, Bill travelled extensively abroad as well as within Canada. Bill and his family lived in Ottawa twice, as well as in Victoria, Toronto and then back to Calgary in 1989. In the early 90’s Bill was involved with RCIA through Holy Spirit Church as well as Team through the FCJ Centre. Bill was a gentle soul whose optimistic outlook about all life situations was contagious. He was forever positive at whatever life presented him and, through his wisdom and attitude, we were all able to gain strength. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Bill’s love for his family could only be shared with a good game of golf. Nothing would make him happier than a round at his Club, Sirocco, with family and friends, and then a nice cold one and much laughter at the 19th hole. Bill was a natural at golf-had a hole in one- and it was said by many that he had a truly natural swing. His best season ever was 2009 – 2010 where he simply tore up the greens. A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Internment at Edenbrook Memeroial Gardens.
